Jambojet has reopened daily flights between Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Entebbe International Airport in Uganda, reopening a key air link between Kenya and Uganda.
The first flight departed JKIA on Monday, with fares starting at Ksh 22,950 (about USD 170) one-way. The 65-minute service is expected to provide a faster and more affordable travel option for business travelers, traders, tourists and people visiting friends and family across the two countries.
The Nairobi-Entebbe route will initially operate once a day, with Jambojet planning to add more frequencies as demand grows.
Jambojet CEO and Managing Director Karanja Ndegwa said the airline’s return to Entebbe was driven by the need for more accessible and dependable regional air travel.
“We are returning to Entebbe with the experience we gained from our first chapter on the route, a densified network and a clear ambition to make regional travel more accessible and reliable. We are therefore bringing our low-cost proposition together with direct, reliable and on-time connectivity.”
Jambojet first introduced flights between Nairobi and Entebbe in 2018, operating the route for nearly two years before withdrawing the service. The airline is now returning to the Ugandan market with a larger network and expanded operational capacity.
The renewed connection will also give travelers from Uganda access to Jambojet’s domestic destinations in Kenya, including Mombasa, Diani, Malindi and Lamu. Kenyan passengers, meanwhile, will have a direct link to Uganda for business, tourism and family visits.
Kenya Tourism Board CEO June Chepkemei said improved air connectivity would help strengthen tourism links between the two countries by making it easier for travelers to combine destinations in Kenya and Uganda.
“This Entebbe–Nairobi service will make it easier for visitors to combine experiences across our two countries. A traveler can enjoy Uganda’s wildlife, culture and natural beauty, then connect conveniently to Kenya’s savannahs, mountains, cities and coast. Visitors arriving in Kenya will likewise have a more accessible gateway to Uganda and the wider Great Lakes region. Jambojet’s daily service will give travelers greater choice and flexibility, enhance convenience and capacity, and create an opportunity to grow this market further.”
Jambojet Board Director Patricia Ithau said the route formed part of the airline’s broader strategy to expand its role in connecting markets across East Africa.
“When Jambojet started operations, our role was fundamentally about making air travel more accessible within Kenya. Today, having carried more than 10 million passengers and built a strong domestic network, our ambition is expanding. We want to connect more people, more markets, and more opportunities across East Africa.”
“Regional growth is not simply about adding routes. It is about building a network that responds to genuine demand and creates a sustainable value for the markets we serve. The return to Entebbe is one step in that journey,” she added.
Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Development Teresia Mbaika said the renewed service would contribute to Kenya’s efforts to strengthen its position as a regional aviation hub.
“Today, we are not simply celebrating a new flight schedule. We are celebrating the opening of another gateway through which people can travel, businesses can thrive, investors can explore opportunities, tourists can discover our region, and communities can strengthen their links with the wider East African market and beyond. I commend the Jambo Jet team for this important investment in connectivity.”
The reopening comes as Jambojet expands its operations. The airline increased its active fleet to 11 aircraft in April 2026 and carried its 10 millionth passenger in June. By July, it had recorded an on-time performance of 86.45% and held an estimated 57% share of Kenya’s domestic aviation market.
Ultimately, Jambojet said it will work with travel agents, corporate clients, tourism organisations and other partners in Kenya and Uganda to grow demand for the route and explore additional opportunities for regional connectivity.
