Kenyan Pathologist and laboratory medicine specialist Dr. Ahmed Kalebi has been inducted into The Pathologist’s Hall of Fame after appearing six times on the international publication’s Power List, which honours influential figures in pathology and laboratory medicine.
Kalebi’s latest recognition in 2026 follows his inclusion on the annual list in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2024, with subsequent appearances bringing his total to six.
This year, Kalebi was named among the 50 leading voices in the field, with recognition linked to his work in developing a digital–first laboratory in Kenya.
The induction identifies his contributions to diagnostic medicine, laboratory innovation and advocacy as well as his efforts to strengthen access to specialized diagnostic services in the country.
Kalebi launched Dr Kalebi Labs (DKL) in 2024; the laboratory uses technologies including total laboratory automation, digital pathology, advanced molecular diagnostics and AI- enabled systems to support diagnostic services.
“Being recognised for the sixth time by The Pathologist is a tremendous honour. But this recognition is not mine alone. It belongs to the entire team at Dr Kalebi Labs, whose commitment to world-class, cutting-edge laboratory services and advocacy continues to drive our work here in Kenya,” said Dr Kalebi.
He also added that the recognition highlighted the need for greater international visibility for African professionals working in pathology and laboratory medicine.
“Africa has exceptional talent in pathology, science and laboratory medicine. We need to create more opportunities for that expertise to be recognised internationally while continuing to build the capabilities that our healthcare systems need at home,” he said.
Kalebi has more than two decades of experience and has worked across diagnostic practice, professional education, laboratory innovation and public health communication.
Ultimately, as digital technologies and artificial intelligence continue to revolutionize laboratory medicine, the challenge that remains is ensuring that these advances transform into better diagnostic services and improved patient care in Kenya and across Africa.
