OPPO A18 launches in Kenya

OPPO on Friday announced the launch of its new A-series smartphone – the OPPO A18 – in Kenya. The budget phone was launched in the country following its initial unveiling in the UAE back in September.

The OPPO A18 comes in two colours, Glowing Blue and Glowing Black. Both models employ OPPO’s exclusive OPPO Glow design technique, which gives the back cover of the phone a subtle shimmering appearance, creating a fingerprints-resistant, dual matte finish with glittery details.

The lineup also inherits the same iconic Ultra-Slim Retro Design as previous models in the OPPO A series. With 2D Premium Design, the device is comfortable to hold and has a sleek and lightweight appearance, measuring only about 8.16mm in thickness and weighing only about 188g.

OPPO A18 Specs

OPPO A18 comes with a 6.56-inch HD+ (1,612 x 720 pixels) IPS LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness level of 720nits. It also features All-Day AI Eye Comfort, which minimizes eye strain, making viewing comfortable regardless of screentime.

OPPO A18 is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio G85 SoC paired with Mali G52 MC2 GPU and ships with Android 13-based ColorOS 13.1.

It comes with a 4GB RAM+128GB ROM configuration, and RAM Expansion technology, allowing it to convert free ROM space into up to 4GB of RAM to keep the phone running smoothly during heavy-load scenarios.

For the cameras, For optics, we’re getting a dual rear camera unit featuring an 8-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel bokeh camera. OPPO says the two cameras work in tandem with OPPO’s advanced portrait algorithm to provide impressive bokeh light spots in the background and highlight the subject in Portrait Mode.  The selfie camera is a 5-megapixel sensor placed in a centre-aligned waterdrop notch at the top of the display.

The smartphone packs a 5,000mAh battery. On full charge, OPPO claims the device will still have more than 20% remaining battery life even after 12 hours of work and daily activities. OPPO has also introduced a series of exclusive technologies designed to enhance charging safety and battery reliability. All-day Charging Protection utilizes AI to learn users’ charging habits and intelligently schedule charging, ensuring safety and efficiency during overnight or extended charging periods. Furthermore, All-Day AI Power Saving guarantees support for 25 hours all-time standby even at a low battery level of 5%.

Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C and it also comes with a 3.5mm audio jack. The phone weighs 188 grams and measures 163.74mm x 75.03mm x 8.16mm in size.

Availability

The OPPO A18 will be available in Kenya in Glowing Blue and Glowing Black with 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM at a recommended retail price of Ksh.20,000 across all OPPO stores countrywide and E-commerce platforms.
