Guest Post: Purpose Driven Voter

By Sammy Tema,

The handwriting is on the wall. The Fat Lady is singing. It is all over. Finished! Victory belongs to either Jubilee or NASA come August 8th 2017.

The fact that the presidential general election is a two horse race, does that automatically mean, however, that every vote cast for one of the two horse candidates is totally not a wasted vote? I don’t think so.

Albert Einstein is credited with saying that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result. It is a culture in Kenya, where most right minded voters still choose ideologically flawed candidates over superior candidates with solid records, citing “it is all about winning” or fear of being ostracized by family, friends, community or the establishment.

Most right minded voters in Kenya are the reason for electing corrupt leaders. Put this into perspective; youths are the majority who vote, since the Kenya Youth Report (2016) revealed that 50 per cent of youth have no problem amassing wealth through evading tax evasion and corruption as long as they do not get prosecuted, then will it be a lie for them not to honor corruption to be in power come August 8th ? Garbage in, garbage out.

Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people Proverbs 14:34. The moral values of a purpose driven voter, results solely from holy texts. Here, their moral values are divinely activated by God. And that why they have the power to stand out against mediocrity. As long as they have co-operated with God, then the game is over! They don’t have to see a gold medal to believe they are winners. Where others look, they see the uprightness of God in His glory exalting this nation and honor that by voting for principle whose ideologies and works come closer to their moral values.

A purpose driven voter is a fearless shepherd like King David, who understands the value of God’s righteousness bestowed in him. He totally can’t allow losing any moral to lions or bears. Their vote is subjected to their true calling, shows a desire of righteousness, it is seeking justice, it is rebuking the oppressor and it is defending the fatherless.

In Kenya, it is not secret most political parties are higher than moral values. There is nothing wrong to be loyal. However, loyalty banked on righteousness whose roots are evil will automatically bring forth evil fruits; it is because of this reason that the 2007-08 post-election violence was inevitable.

As John Quincy Adams said, “Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.”

Since we desire the likes of King David to rule this country, then it will be better to be servants of Saul first, rather than Goliath. It is better to vote alone for someone whose roots are more close to your moral values, than the one who is not. A wasted vote is a vote for someone you are certain will not lead in the right way, a person you are a certain will not bring change, that person you are voting based on carnality and not spirituality.

Most of us have been right minded voters for a long time. Now is the time to be purpose driven for the sake of a lifetime victory. Therefore, don’t lose any lamp; strike and kill the lions and bears as a sign of victory over the Goliath in Kenya whose days are numbered in less than ten years from now. Keep in mind, “Supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy’s resistance without fighting.” – Sun Tzu, The Art of War.
