Redmi A3 launches in Kenya for Ksh. 11,599

Xiaomi has officially launched the Redmi A3 budget smartphone in Kenya. Launched on Thursday, the phone features a 6.71″ 90Hz display, and glass design and will be available for Ksh. 11,599.

Xiaomi is describing the phone as the best gift you can give someone this April Holiday season.

Redmi A3 is the company’s latest addition to the entry-level Redmi smartphone family boasting a stylish design, a large, high refresh rate display, AI dual camera, and more.

In Kenya, the Redmi A3 will be available in two distinct colour options – Midnight Black and Star Blue1, in 3GB+64GB, and 4GB+128GB memory and storage configurations.

”Making style its central priority, Redmi A3 addresses the preferences of users seeking an affordable yet elegant glass design, as well as those who prefer a more subdued finish.” Xiaomi’s local office said in a press release.

Redmi A3 specs and features

The Redmi A3 features a 6.71-inch HD+ (1,600×700 pixels) display with 120Hz touch sampling rate and 90Hz refresh rate. The display has a waterdrop-style notch which houses the selfie shooter and also has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

The new Redmi smartphone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio G36 SoC, and is available in 3GB+64GB, and 4GB+128GB configurations. With the virtual RAM functionality, the available memory can be expanded up to 8GB for slick app loading and switching. Additional data storage is available via a microSD slot, which supports microSD cards of up to 1TB.

Redmi A3 runs on Android 13 (Go Edition) and for the battery, Xiaomi has added a 5000mAh (typ) battery with support for USB Type-C 10W fast charging. Xiaomi claims the Redmi A3 will keep pace with users throughout the day and beyond, delivering up to 29 hours of call time, and up to 17 hours of video playback. It adds that the Redmi A3 has also been rigorously tested to deliver outstanding physical durability, completing roller testing (300 times) and USB durability testing (10,000 times).

For the cameras, the Redmi packs an AI-backed dual rear camera unit, comprising an 8-megapixel primary sensor and a secondary camera. For selfies and video chats, there is a 5-megapixel camera sensor at the front.

Connectivity options include 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, micro-USB port, Glonass, a 3.5mm audio jack and BeiDou. It sports an accelerometer, e-compass and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for authentication.
